"don't worry"
they say
"it'll be fine"
fine like china
perched on a shelf
shown off like riches
until one special day
when family passes it around
and She d
r
o
p
s
shattering.
never fine again
"you'll be fine"
like the line drawn
between white and black
good and evil
right and wrong
one day, a toe is dipped across the line
a ripple shatters the line
never to be re-drawn
never forgiven
never fine again
"you're fine!"
fine, like it's a success to strive for
"it's just so fine"
the hairdresser mutters
releasing hair from her grip and scrunching her nose
she gets it.
fine is not the goal
fine doesn't come
but why should I want it to?
if happiness isn't the final destination,
i will skip fine
like the casserole i can't stomach
or the documentary i can't sit through until the end
if fine is the mission, i'd rather abort.
